Mastering for vinyl

While vinyl is currently enjoying a renaissance, some inherent limitations in its dynamic and frequency range require careful attention and an additional master alongside CD/Digital masters.

How long does each side of vinyl allow before degrading the quality?

Though, technically, a side of 12” vinyl can run over 30 minutes, after specific lengths are exceeded, the audio quality will start to degrade. Below is a rough guide to optimal times.

12’’: 18 minutes (33 RPM) / 14 minutes (45 RPM)
10’’: 14 minutes (33 RPM) / 11 minutes (45 RPM)
7’’: 6 minutes (33 RPM) / 5 minutes (45 RPM)
